New works

I am currently interested in exploring the subject of teeange angst and anxiety. As a mother of teens myself, I am amazed how much more difficult life is as an adolescent now in comparison to when I was that age.
"Secrets", "This, too, Shall Pass" and "Innocence Lost" portray some of the emotions young people are dealing with, but that we can all relate to from our own experiences.
I'm also continuing to add to my motherhood/maternity series. Some are commissions by the parents-to-be and some are for sale and have been entered into competitions and exhibits.

Up Close & Personal

Up Close & Personal

I am having so much fun with this new series of extreme close up portraits! I try to focus in on the parts that are most characteristic of the person, whether it's a fun hair color, a sly grin or beautiful eyes. The size of these new portraits is relatively small so they can be hung in groupings, such as a whole family together.

I am keeping the sizes fairly standard on these for easier, lower pricing and great gift ideas.

The sizes are 8x16" (vertical or horizontal) and 11x11".
The cost is $450 and includes standard framing in archival materials.

If you are interested in commissioning one or a few of your own loved ones, drop me a line. You can email me your favorite photos or I can take new ones. In most cases the finished framed paintings can be delivered 3-4 weeks after the initial order and deposit.

Client comments:

"The paintings were wonderful, my wife loved them. We will be
back for more.  I can't tell you how much we love that you really captured our
kids.  You exceeded our high expectations."
Steve P.

"Daggi absolutely captured my daughter's personalities and likenesses. These paintings are the most authentic things in my house. Each day I look at them I see my kids!"

Rich H.

Moni's Kids

Moni's Kids

These are the first in the series of portraits done for my non-profit Moni's Kids. 100% of the sales price goes back to help the children portrayed. Each portrait is mounted on paper onto which the children added their own drawings and words. Please, click on the portraits to learn more about each child. If you are also interested in sponsoring a child, please contact me.

“We are thrilled to have the presence of your paintings in our home. These children emanate a universal light. I think it’s a reflection of your love for them! We are truly touched by your work.”

Richard King and Sharon McPherson

“Your work is beautiful. I can see the souls of these children through your artistry. The portrait of Kenley touched my heart…such a regal face and those eyes!!! They are pools of love and something very special!”

Nancy McPherson

Maternity Portraits

Maternity Portraits

Maternity portraits are a wonderful way to celebrate one of the most special times in the life of a family.

But why settle for the usual photography portraits when you can add heirloom paintings to your home?

As a mother myself I am endlessly inspired by motherhood and children. I loved being pregnant with my two daughters (many moons ago!) and enjoy making you look your best during this incredible time in your life. Capturing that famous glow, the love that shines through even before your baby is born, the special bond between you and your unborn child, the love between you and your husband...I highlight them in my award winning portraits that look great in the nursery or anywhere else in your home.
The photo shoot is done in the comfort of your own home and completely at your level of discretion.
As I am expanding on this series and offering this new service I am delighted to work with you on creative poses and ideas, including the father and siblings. I love to incorporate text into the painting, as you can see in "I Loved you Before I Knew You". These can be poems, sayings, the baby's name or your own special message.

Prices start at $850 for a half figure 12x18" size. You can see other pricing here.

Please, contact me for details and appointments.

Portraits

Portraits

"The character of a face in a drawing depends not upon its various proportions, but upon a spiritual light which it reflects."
Henri Matisse

To capture that light is a never ending challenge, a quest I started as a child with my first portrait at age 11.
I absolutely love painting the human face and never tire of the endless variety of lines, values and forms.
Discovering the subtle colors in flesh tones and portraying the emotions behind the gaze is what conitnues to inspire me.
Portraits are an excellent way to honor a loved one or capture a special moment in your life. They are treasures to be handed down for generations.
They can be painted in a contemporary style or a traditional pose.

A few words from my clients:

Thank you so much for the beautiful painting of Olivia.  It absolutely
lights up the room in our house.  It was such a pleasure working with you.
From the moment of getting the right shot during the photo session and the
fun time we had, to the approval period where  you were so patient with us
while we decide what type of glass and frame to get.  Your expertise in that
aspect was right on the mark.  I know it to be the case because of the
comments we get whenever a guest comes to the house and sees the painting.
This painting will definitely become an heirloom piece.
Daggi, thank you so much for your fine work.  We will forever be in your
gratitude.
 Regards,
Orlando and Olivia Colon

You are NOT going to believe this (sometimes I feel like I can't win!) .... Caleb's pic doesn't look as good as the girls' and now he is jealous and wants you to do him!!!!!!!!!!!! ?  I may have to wait a bit, but the girls' really are superior and now his looks awkward.  You really have a remarkable talent. Caleb's pic has stood up for 10 years against 3 other artists, but you have succeeded in doing something better (with his sisters portraits)!

Figurative

Figurative

"You have got to use your eyes as well as your emotions, and one without the other just doesn't work."
Andrew Wyeth

Sometimes it's a group of figures I come across on the street, in an established setting. At other times I have an idea I want to explore and I get to pose my model just the way I want, control the lighting and clothing. In either case, it's the story behind the image that I want to make visible to the viewer.

Surfers

Surfers

My series of surfers was inspired not only by the beauty of the ocean's colors but by the interaction between man and nature. The surfers' twisted, angular bodies juxtaposed against the flowing, moving waves create a natural abstract design that is a joy to observe. Spending many hours on the beaches of California and Hawaii photographing the surfers becomes a kind of meditation for me, a spiritual experience I hope to pass along to the viewer.

Musicians

Musicians

A new and ongoing series of blues and jazz musicians, some famous, some not, some living, some not. Some of the paintings were done from reference photos from books or the internet, some were done from my own reference photos of the artists. I will continue to add on to this series as time permits so keep checking back!

Landscapes

Landscapes

"The artist does not draw what he see, but what he must make others see."
Edgar Degas

I'm very fortunate to have the ability to travel frequently and to have family spread over several countries. I often find myself so inspired by the mood of a place, the visual beauty of the local colors, natural designs made by the shape of mountains or fields, that I will take a break from my usual subject matter of people to dwell in the landscape a little longer. Some of these are painted on location, others in the studio. I'd be happy to paint a commission from one of your own photos. It's a great way to remember a vacation or location with a special meaning. These make very personal, treasured gifts.

Still Lifes and Florals

Still Lifes and Florals

Although, I do not paint a lot of still lifes or florals, every now and then I thoroughly enjoy "playing" with a set-up and painting from life. A still life gives me total control over the concept, set-up and having some fun injecting humor into the title. The florals are done from photographs from my travels, where I can spend hours in parks and botanical gardens. Growing up in Europe, flowers were always present in our home and they continue to be an important part of my daily surroundings.
