"Chaos", 20"x30", pastel, charcoal, gesso, ink. This is my last painting for 2016 and it was another one that I had no idea would be so timely when I started it. In a very somber coincidence I photographed my model at the exact same city square in Berlin where the attack at the Christmas Market happened today, Dec 19, 2016 (of course here I abstracted the background)! The photos were taken more than a year ago when I photographed my female models for my Berlin Wall series. I knew I wanted to paint Juri, too, and had the general idea in mind (my commentary of the chaos we are leaving behind for the next generation). I started this about a week ago and finished it today just as I was learning of the attacks in my hometown. It left me shaking...
