This is one of the children I'm painting for my "Moni's Kids" Project. All proceeds will go back to the children portrayed in this series. To learn more about this project, please click here or you may follow the progress of this series on my blog here.
About Genel: After this year’s devastating earthquake Sherry, the daughter of NLCH founder Miriam, was in the interior of the country rendering aid, when an elderly couple came up to her as she boarded a helicopter to leave. They thrust a tiny bundle into her arms. She thought it was an infant, but it turned out to be a very malnourished 3-4 year old boy. All the couple was able to say in English before the helicopter took off was "Take! Mama dead. Papa dead. Please, take!" Genel spent a couple of weeks in the hospital, not talking or smiling at anyone. Toys and food that was given to him he stuffed into his pants for safekeeping. Finally, as he gained a sense of safety he started smiling and is now a very happy, thriving little boy. Birthday: Jan 1, 2004
